Awakening Shadows - Activating the Subconscious Mind with Laurie Baldwin

Activating the subconscious mind involves tapping into the deeper layers of your consciousness, and it is important to note that it is a highly personal and subjective experience. The Subconscious Mind refers to the part of our mind that operates below the level of conscious awareness. It is responsible for storing and processing information, emotions, memories, and beliefs that influence our thoughts, behaviors, and experiences. Well the conscious mind is the part we are aware of and actively use to make decisions, the subconscious plays a significant role in shaping our thoughts, actions, and perceptions without us consciously realizing it. It is often associated with intuition, creativity, and automatic processes such as habits and instincts. Understanding and activating the subconscious mind can help us tap into its potential and harness its power to improve various aspects of our lives.

Activating the subconscious mind can bring about several benefits that can positively impact our lives. Here are some key benefits to consider:

  1. Improved self-awareness and self-discovery: By accessing the subconscious mind, we can gain deeper insights into our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This increased self-awareness allows us to understand ourselves better, uncover hidden motivations, or identify patterns or beliefs that may be holding us back.

  2. Enhanced creativity and problem-solving abilities: The subconscious mind is a wellspring of creativity. When we activate it, we can tap into our imagination and unlock innovated ideas. Additionally, the subconscious mind can help us solve problems by working on them in the background, often leading to unexpected solutions or “aha” moments.

  3. Increases motivation and goal achievement: Our subconscious mind is closely tied to our desires and aspirations. By activating it, we can align our subconscious beliefs and desires with our conscious goals. The alignment can boost motivation, increase focus, and improve our chances of reaching our desired outcomes.

  4. Overcoming limited beliefs and negative patterns: Many of our limiting beliefs and negative patterns are deeply rooted in the subconscious mind. By activating it, we can identify and challenge these beliefs, replacing them with more empowering and positive ones. This process can lead to personal growth, increased confidence, and a greater sense of self-worth,

It is important to note that the benefits of activating the subconscious mind may vary from person to person. Each individual’s experience and outcomes can differ on their unique circumstances and approaches. By exploring and experimenting with techniques to activate the subconscious mind, you can discover the specific benefits that resonate with you and support your personal growth and development.

Introduction to Shadow Work

Recovering and developing the psyche involves various practices and approaches depending on individual needs and circumstances. Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individuals conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. The inner journey phase process puts us in touch with the inner neglected figures of our unconscious. And the first figure met on the journey is usually our shadow, the neglected, negative side of our personality.

The shadow not only contains negative elements and destructive possibilities, but also potential for greater growth and development of personality. Although it is undeveloped and acts negatively, it is capable of being brought to life for enrichment of the personality. Much of what is in the shadow is unlived by the individual. The “positive” aspect of the shadow represents potential which could be tapped, but pressures, fears, or unwillingness to take responsibility makes it difficult to “own” this part of self.

First we must accept the facts of ourselves that we are, and then we can develop. In accepting ourselves we receive ourselves, and if we can really accept ourselves we can feed and develop ourselves.

Exercise - Exploring the Shadows A Journey of Self Discovery

In this exercise, we delve into the depths of our psyche and engage with a dialogue of our shadow selves. By using active imagination and interacting with different parts of ourselves, we can gain a deeper understanding of our hidden desires, fears, and unresolved emotions. This can be both enlightening and transformative.

Exercise:

  1. Find a quiet comfortable place where you can relax and not be disturbed. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths and take a moment to ground yourself.

  2. Visualize a door in your mind. This door represents the entrance to your inner world where your shadow selves reside. Imagine stepping through the door into a mysterious landscape.

  3. As you explore the landscape, you encounter different aspects of your shadow self. These aspects could represent your suppressed emotions, fears, or desires. Engage in a dialogue with each aspect, allowing them to express their selves freely.

  4. Start by asking each of your aspect of your shadow self questions such as:

  • What is your purpose or role in my life?

  • What emotions or fears do you represent?

  • How have you influenced my thoughts and actions?

  • What lessons can I learn from you?

    5. Listen attentively to each of the responses from each aspect of your shadow self. Take note of any insights or revelations that arise during the dialogue. Remember, this is a safe space for exploration and self-reflection.

6. Once you have finished engaging with each aspect, take a moment to reflect on the overall experience. Consider how these shadow aspects have shaped your life and how you can integrate their wisdom into your conscious self.

Shadow work is a process that requires patience, self-compassion, and a willingness to confront the darker aspects of ourselves. By engaging in this exercise regularly, you can develop a better understanding of your inner world and cultivate a sense of wholeness. Embrace the shadows as an integral part of your being, and let them guide you towards personal growth and transformation. Remember, this exercise is just a starting point. Feel free to adapt it to your needs and explore different techniques that work for you.

Automatic Processes: The subconscious mind is responsible for many automatic processes in our brains, such as regulated breathing, heartbeat, and other bodily functions. It also stores memories, habits and beliefs that influence our behaviors.

Collective Unconscious: The layer differs from our personal unconscious in that its existence does not depend on personal experience. The contents of the collective unconscious have never been conscious and are a result of hereditary evolution. We have this layer of the of the unconscious by being born as humans. Just as our bodies are linked with the past through the evolutionary process, so to are our psyches.

Consciousness: Consciousness is a part of the psyche known directly by the individual. It consists of thoughts, memories, and feelings which are present in ones awareness. In relationship to the unconscious, consciousness is the smaller part of the psyche.

Ego: Ego is the center of consciousness. It is the gatekeeper to consciousness since the experiences of inner and outer worlds must pass through the consciousness to be conscious. A healthy ego is an important goal in human development. We all probably have experienced an inflation of our ego’s. This can lead to one being in delusion and this is just not a pretty thing for others to have to observe in another. Sometimes we do not even know we are living in our egos, but others can see clearly that we are.

Emotional Processing: Our subconscious minds are heavily involved in processing emotions. It can react to emotions based on past experiences and emotions stored in the memory, even if not consciously aware of why we are feeling a certain way.

Personal Unconscious: The content of the personal unconscious consists of material that was once conscious. It’s a realm of thoughts, memories, and feelings which were known, but now for various reasons have left the conscious and reside in the unconscious.

Psyche: Psyche refers to the totality of the personality. The psyche has an inherent wholeness which has to be recovered and developed. Key factors having to be recovered and developed.

Unconscious Mind: Refers to the part of the mental processes that operates below the level of conscious awareness. It plays a crucial role in shaping our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, often influencing us without our conscious realization.

There are several exercises you can do to engage and heal your mind such as:

Journaling: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help bring subconscious thoughts to the surface to facilitate healing.

Visualization: Creating mental images of positive outcomes or desired changes can influence the subconscious mind and promote healing.

Affirmations: Repeating positive affirmations can reprogram negative beliefs held in the subconscious mind promoting healing.
